Wayne County Museum of History

The museum is housed in the former Wayne County Jail and Sheriff's residence built in 1856 and used until 1960. The 24 cells are still intact with the original inmate art work on the walls. Learn the stories of some of the inmates that served time at the jail, and tour the three floors of exhibition space, such as Lyons Pottery & Clyde Glass, the Military Room which spans the War of 1812 to Vietnam War, a Child's 1856 bedroom and much more. The museum is located at 21 Butternut Street; a short walk up from lock #27.
